In 2009, for the third year in a row, our conference sold out, with attendance surpassing the previous high of nearly 800 attendees from around the world. ONA conference attendees are a tech-savvy bunch. They include producers, content editors, technologists, programmers, designers and newsroom decision-makers from major media markets, independent websites and leading academic institutions. They are interested in the latest in software, hardware, content and distribution platforms.

Your exposure
We don’t have a media list for our conference, and there’s a reason. Everyone you will meet is a member of the media, either hailing from a media technology website or thought leaders in their area with robust social networks. Make an impression on an ONA10 attendee and they’ll blog or tweet about it. Some highlights from the 2009 Online News Association Conference and Awards Banquet, held Oct. 1-3 at the San Francisco Hilton:

  • Twitter CEO Evan Williams sat down for a headline-making keynote interview.
  • Speakers Leo Laporte and BlogHer CEO Lisa Stone shared their inspirational journeys from journalists to entrepreneurs.
  • Session speakers included cutting-edge industry leaders such as Hoa Loranger of Nielsen Media Group; Krishna Bharat, Google chief scientist and creator of Google News; and Paul Berry, Chief Technology Officer of HuffingtonPost.com.
  • Our day-long Career Summit featured industry-leading recruiters and career counselors, followed by a Job Fair with recruiters from AOL, Yahoo!, the New York Times, Gannett/USA TODAY, Demand Studios, Patch Media and Voice of America.
  • The Online Journalism Awards, the only annual awards competition recognizing the best and the brightest work in digital news, opened new categories to honor technical innovation, outstanding use of digital technologies and community collaboration.
