"The whole culture is changing. People now have egos. It's all about my, my, my," said Rex Sorgatz, Interactive Director of IBS, at a discussion Friday titled "What's New in New Media?"
Panelists at the session noted that podcasting, RSS, blogs and SMS allow users to customize the way they receive and share content.
"Podcasting gives someone the opportunity to have a voice. There's always someone who wants their own radio or TV show and podcasting allows you to do that," said Jess Barron, Senior editor for Yahoo! News.
Barron, who has dubbed herself as a certified pop culture junkie, produces her own podcast and feels that more people should take advantage of the technology.

More opportunity comes with RSS feeds which can draw in new audiences.
"RSS is more of a pull instead of a push. RSS readers actively download feeds, rather than e-mail clients passively accepting incoming mail," said Adrian Holovaty, Web developer for CJWorld.com.
SMS has become popular in Brazil for delivering sports scores, but it has limitations.
"The hard part is that you have only 150 characters to write punchy headlines, yet tease in advertising. Also, the fact that some cell phone providers like Sprint don't allow text messages that has another provider's advertisement," can hamstring content said Suzanne Levinson, Managing Editor of Herald.com.
